The Power of Positive Thinking

It is amazing how the power of positive thinking has so much current interest, and its building!  This is because they have realised what an enormous effect it can have on our lives.  I have already mentioned the health benefits of positive thinking on the home page, so now let's delve in a little further.

What is the Power of Positive Thinking?

In the 1950s, Dr Norman Vincent Peale wrote a book called The Power of Positive Thinking, and it became an international bestseller (click on the book for more information).  The book's premise is that it doesn't matter who you are, where you come from, or what kind of upbringing you had; success lies in the way you THINK.  Think positively and you will be successful.

Now, one could say that that is obvious, but is it?  How many new businesses fail every year?  Roughly 8 out of 10!  And they all start out believing in what they are doing don't they?  Otherwise they wouldn't have tried.  So what's the difference between those that are successful, and those that are not?

If you take away the commonly spoken of reasons ie. lack of planning/capital/management etc. etc, what sets these two apart is this; those that are successful are steadfastly positive that they will make it no matter what.  This ensures they never, never give up - so when challenges come along (as they always do) they don't allow negative circumstances to get in their way, they just find another way around and keep going.  Those that aren't successful on the other hand, invariably they have really struggled when the going got tough as they didn't have that same steadfast positivity.

There are many extremely successful people that started with absolutely nothing, many even experiencing homelessness, and they went on to become millionaires and even billionaires.  Have at look at this really inspiring article about some of them.

So why not you or I?

When Norman Peale's book was released, it was thought to be ground breaking.  Now of course, with the aid of the internet, its possible to dig much further back to similar authors (here are some of the most popular).  What all of these authors have in common is that in a roundabout way their message is the same as the now popular Law of Attraction.

Positive thinking is available to anybody, regardless of whether we were dragged into this world, or whether we were brought up with a silver spoon in our mouths - it is free for everyone.  It really is a choice, which we can make at any time.  It may feel an impossible choice at times, but anyone who has deliberately changed their thinking will tell you everything changed once they did.  Although we do have to put in a little effort, the rewards SO make up for it.

Ready to build up some of that power?  These positive thinking techniques will certainly help, or you could create some powerful positive affirmations to help rewire your thinking patterns.
